Sleepy in Madrid

Our Hotel

We took four days to get here, stopping in Denver to see friends and a night in the Madrid airport (hold that thought), which helped greatly adjusting to the 10 hour time change from Alaska.  Although it was only 7pm-ish when we landed in Madrid, I was one tired puppy.  Since we were on a train to Cordoba the next morning, staying at the airport and maximizing sleep time seemed a good idea.

Now, about a 'night in the airport...', Mark was a champion in organizing all our trip logistics so I was expecting a typical hub hotel which is often a short walk across a street or over a pedestrian bridge.  Exiting security, weaving through the gauntlet of arrival greeters, and ping-ponging around currency exchanges and info kiosks (no, the XY chromosome amongst us did not want to use the latter), we gave a sigh of relief when finally finding the tiny reference sign to "Air Rooms".  Following said sign to yet a lower level, we ended up in the "Sea of Rental Car Stations".   We once again gave our little wheelie bags a workout as we zigged and zagged looking for another breadcrumb of a hotel sign.  Nearing the "Point of Deparation" on my mental map, we found the hotel logo on what looked to be a fire exit door.  We skirted around the corner and lo, there was the front door to the HelloSky Air Room hotel!  Even with my paper printout (old school but still good practice) it took several minutes to be accepted into the "box", as I shall now fondly call it, for that's what the hotel is.  And our room is a box in a box.  It's amazing how ten hours of jet lag can erase any standards of what an acceptable room should achieve.  I tend to be claustrophobic but my craving for a soft pillow and a prone position overrode my normal hotel criteria.  In fairness, the accommodation was new and very clean.  And, with a little help from Lunesta, I had a wonderful, long night's sleep.  We even had a decent little breakfast provided for us in the morning.  Thumbs up!
